Collecting Zinnia Seeds

Yesterday I spent few hours collecting zinnia seeds from a row of giant zinnias by a cotton wood tree. We have been planting fields and rows of zinnias for 3 years now and purchasing the seeds online. This year I start collecting the seeds so we don't have to purchase them next year, I hope. I got a whole brown bag full of seed (gross, including dry petals etc) from one row only and went ahead with broadcasting half the bag on a field, mixed with sunflower seeds, to see if they are any good.

or eaten by birds.
