Winter Aconite

April 09, 2011.

I have been calling this spring wild flower 'buttercup'. Today, when browsing a nursery's catalogue, I found out that this is known as 'Winter Aconite' or 'Eranthis'. The nursery sells this plant for around ten bucks for 12 bulbs, while here in our area this plant grows naturally. More information about it can be found in THIS LINK.

Bird's Eye View

Deep red crimson clover field viewed from a distance.

Another garden ornament, a bird's hole,

a gift from our neighbor, hung on a limb of a pecan tree.

This might be the peak of the crimson clover blooms. We'll see.

Irises Spring 2011

Unknown Iris that was purchased from Bruce Miller.

Iris that grows wild in the back pasture

and transplanted to the garden.

These purple irises are from our neighbor,

given in the form of rhizomes.

Weather

April 4, 2011.

The long awaited rain is finally pouring this early morning, along with thunder, lightning, and mothball size hail. The wind picked up yesterday afternoon with very strong gusts blowing loose stuff around the garden and it went on until today evening. Here's the view from the front porch yesterday afternoon when the gust were just blowing (see the flag). Petunias in the hanging pot looked extremely pretty and the Ajanica pacifica comes back very strongly as always.

Pottery Pots and Garden Ornaments

Porcelain wall pots are the new addition to this wall.

I have been using portulaca or purslane for the clay pot,

but for the porcelain I use white alyssum which is very fragrant,

pink verbena, and purple lobelia.

Fish shape wall pot and ornament.

I put fan flower and sweet potato vine in it.

A puppy clay pot from Hooten's. Still not sure what to put in it,

maybe pink flowering creeping thyme.
